“Best of the Brownies”

This recipe was printed in our local newspaper over 30 years ago as the winner of a brownie bake-off between Girl Guide troupes. My mom clipped it out and ever since then it has been our family brownie recipe – it really is the best I’ve ever tried, and super quick and easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 1 c butter
  • 1 c white sugar
  • 1 c brown sugar
  • 3/4 c cocoa powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
  2. Melt the butter, white sugar, brown sugar and cocoa powder in a large saucepan.
  3. Take the pan off the heat and add the eggs one at a time, whisking in between.
  4. Whisk in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine the flour and baking powder in a small bowl. Add to the chocolate mixture and whisk.
  6. Pour into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Allow to cool 15 minutes before cutting into 20 brownies.
