These delicious, traditional Swedish meatballs are great served over garlic rice, mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
Meatballs:
- 1/2 large sweet onion, grated
- 2 Tbsp olive oil, divided
- 1/2 c bread crumbs
- 1/2 c milk
- 1 egg
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Sauce:
- 1/4 c butter
- 1/3 c flour
- 2 c beef broth
- 1 c half-and-half cream
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper

Directions:
- Heat 1/2 Tbsp olive oil in a small pan and cook the onion until soft. Set aside to cool.
- Combine the bread crumbs and milk together in a large bowl. Add egg, cooked onion, ground beef, ground pork and all the spices. Mix together well, then form into 28 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet.
- Heat the remaining oil in a large non-stick pan. Fry the meatballs in batches until about 1/2 cooked (still pink in the center). Set aside.
- Make the sauce in the same pan by melting the butter then whisking in the flour and let cook for 2 minutes. Whisk in the beef broth, cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.
- Add the meatballs back to the pan and allow the meatballs to simmer in the sauce for about 10 minutes.
